After Tomorrow

After tomorrow …
time will stand still.
After tomorrow
the trees will shed their leaves.
After tomorrow
we shall sing again /
albeit out of tune.
I shall taste the honey from the nectar tree.
And you will remember my name.
A liquid sky shall vanish,
and night will take a stand.
Every day that passes bestows a new prize.
Not one that we ask for / but one that we must accept.
Tomorrows are jewels cast upon the sand.
We stoop to pick one up /
only to misplace it, forgetting where we are.
After tomorrow …
the chains will break so we can breathe again.
After tomorrow the bloodroot will bloom,
the fox will leave its den,
and we can start anew.
